Why we do what we do

Jesus said in His great commission to "Go into all the world and preach the gospel, and make disciples". We believe that this is the purpose of the Church: to proclaim the love of God as seen through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus, and to equip His followers to grow in personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

We have been given the personal examples of Jesus and the Apostles (Peter, James, John, Paul…), as well as written instruction in the New Testament of how to be disciples of Jesus Christ. A disciple is an active follower of someone or someone's teaching. For this reason we place great emphasis on the Bible in all our gatherings.

We teach the Bible verse by verse, chapter by chapter, book by book. This is also known as expository teaching or explaining the Word of God. Why the whole Bible? Jesus said, "You search the Scriptures because in them you think you have life, but these are they which testify of Me." (John 5:39). Jesus is both the author and the subject of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation.

Our desire is to reach the unsaved. To see Calvary Chapel established in Edmonton and watch it grow into a church that will be faithful and in love with God and His Word, that will be a light in this city and that will not compromise. To disciple the saints and equip them for the work of the ministry. To be faithful ambassadors of Christ. This is why we do what we do.
